These are just short routes, Ullapool is a great location for touring the Highlands and going down Sky.

North To Lochinver

This is a local favourite route for a short sunday run only about 80 miles there and back. Heading north out of Ullapool you come to some long bends and very long straights. You will see Stac Pollaidh, Cal Mor and Suilven becareful of gravel when you enter Elphin the 40mph zone. You can then either go left to Achiltibuie (slower road single track and lots of sheep but very nice views of the summer isles). Once you turn left at the junction you will soon come up to ruins which is nice to stop and have a walk about or keep on riding. The road becomes some twistes then long straights. As you approach Lochinver the road condition gets pretty poor and is like ruts. You can get petrol at Lochinver and there is a nice pub at the harbour side which is biker friendly.

South To Dundonnell

Heading south out of Ullapool you turn right at braemore junction you can stop of and go down the Corrieshalloch Gorge and go for a walk over the suspension bridge. If you head just 2mins down the right and stop at the parking place you get a great view looking towards loch broom. The main photo above with my ZX10R is taken from that spot. Once you leave that parking and heading to Dundonnell its a fast road and watch there is a slight dip where you can get a slapping off the bars. A few miles on you come to a very open long road, if you got good weather its great but you can get strong side winds. There are a couple of blind summits and if my memory is right the second one has a pretty tight left hander right after. Once you get close to Dundonnell there will be sheep and joats so just watch for the suicide ones, if you go a few miles past the Hotel there is a parking spot just outside Dundonnell on the the right. Enter very very slowly as the council has not done the surface and very very loose gravel and rocks. Very nice spot for photos and to take in the scenery.

You can continue that run further to Gairloch where you will see some lovely sand beaches.

There are many more routes you can take form Ullapool. You can also check out www.bestbikeroads.com and select the highlands and you will see all of the roads that have been reviewed.

We advertise with http://www.bike-stay.net/ which is a good website for finding biker friendly accommodation.

You may also get advice from other bikers about this area from http://www.bikechatforums.com/.
